"Eggplant Gang" - SOLD

We have a great farmer's market here in Bastrop, but I hadn't ever made it on the right day or the right time until this last Saturday. I walked in and was immediately drawn to these perfect little eggplants! I picked them up and was exclaiming "how cute!" when the woman behind the table started apologizing for their small size, blaming it on the drought. I said, "oh but they're perfect to paint." She gave me the most quizzical look. I think she thought I was going to paint the outside of them, like give them a smiley face or something. I get this a lot.

Tomorrow I leave for Canada for a week. I plan to post while there - I did some extra paintings this week just for this.

Lovely colours.

You could make a teabag look hangable on your wall.

I have an awful fear that I might start copying what you do when I get around to painting - you know that feeling where you have a Hero/Heroine/inspiration who you have to copy? How does one get over that ... ? It's a kind of apprenticeship and healthy I'd say

Do any of you still go through that

Had to laugh at the eggplants that were "perfect to paint". A friend has taken up woodturning and has presented me with the most beautiful bowl, with three woods, perfectly formed, cutouts, polished...and when I told him I had painted it...you can't imagine the look on his face. So immediately emailed him the photo of the painting of the bowl with apples in it! Whew!

Lovely painting, Carol.

James, I would like to paint like Carol... I've even watched one of her videos, but its really hard. Carol makes them look easy.

In general, I don't think there is any problem trying to emulate a hero. Artists have always copied... in the end we go our own paths.

I guess we all have to clarify that we are not going to put a coat of paint on our fruit or veggies. I am now sure to specify that I am an oil painter who uses fruit/vegetables in still life arrangements.

For the past few months I have been too distracted by life events to paint, but I still take my time selecting produce. A nice lady commented on how I seemed very particular in choosing my Gala apples. She seemed charmed that I was selecting apples with the idea of using them as subjects for a painting. :)

Carol, Love the coloration in this...reminds me that the autumn season is not that far away. Saw your show last weekend while in Austin....TERRIFIC! Congrats!

I love this one. The colors are different in this one ... at least from your usual amazing paintings. This paintnig probably would have worked even if you had added the happy face to the eggplant!
