"A Little Reflection"

BUY NOW $80

I really love painting reflections, but doing it is kind of like backing up with a trailer. Those of you who've done it will understand. You have to do everything backwards.

Below is a painting I did a couple of weeks ago. It is 20"x24" and for my upcoming solo show. I was in kind of a funky mood when choosing the composition, which is why the scissors are open and maybe a bit menacing looking. When my husband saw it finished he said "don't run with this painting," which of course is the perfect title for it. : )

The big one looks like Steven King getting a snack. You nailed the reflections in the small. Boy would i Like to See a small one with a fabric fold. :) please? I'm having a simplification problem.

One of my favorite Diebenkorn paintings is a pair of scissors. (open). The shape is much more interesting when open. http://www.chestercollege.edu/diessner/i_i/discussion_images/describe/page2.htm

Maryanne, Copy the long URL you put in your comment for Diebenkorn and take it to http://tinyurl.com/create.php and you get http://tinyurl.com/dl2gzc. Thanks for the look at Diebenkorn's scissors. I've got a painting of open scissors, too! I'll see if I can find a photo of it and post it on my blog. leoraplatteartist.blogspot.com. Carol, I watched your video painting a yellow pepper. That was fun! Someday I want to get in on one of your workshops. I'm in Nebraska.

I love painting reflections too but they never turn out as good as yours! Great paintings, as always!

Carol, I love visiting your blog. Always something fresh and lovely. I'm a watercolorist in Houston, but I used to paint in oils.

Here's the thing Carol....the crescent shape in between the saucer and the scissors dominates your composition. The pleasant sweep of the crescent draws the eye away from the scissors and around to the peppers. It's almost as if there are 2 separate paintings here.

Turn you canvas upside down, or on its side and you'll see what I mean.
