"Beside Myself" - SOLD

After my post yesterday about edges I got a very thoughtful email from Bruce Hedges. He said the key to interesting edges is "variety," and I completely agree! He says: "There are other factors, too. But variation, whether in edges, color, value, shapes, or textures, is a key to interest." Right on, Bruce.

Just wanted to say that I love your artwork. I love the angular brush strokes. How did you go about developing that style? :)

Your discussion these last two blogs have been very helpful. Your colors in "Beside Myself" are really very nice!!!

Thanks you guys! Ashley, your question is a tough one. I guess the biggest thing that led me towards this style was discovering the flat/bright brush. I got a really good quality one a year ago or so and went to town (a Windsor & Newton Monarch flat). Everything else is just work work work.

It's the edge vibration that makes your paintings sing. Your work ethic is outstanding, Carol.

This is one of my favorite paintings of yours. I love the colors and the placements. The looseness is fantastic-as usual.

I really enjoyed reading both posts about edges. I know when I first started painting all of my edges were sharp too because I was afraid of messing up. It seems like part of the painting process (at least with oils) is about learning to overcome the fear of making mistakes.
