"First One In" - SOLD

I love the reflected blue here. It was one of those situations where I happened upon it and thought "woah, that's cool!" I have to admit most of my compositions happen by accident. I have some vague ideas in my mind ahead of time, sometimes, but mostly I just play around with stuff until I like what I see, and then I paint it. I had a student once specifically watch me while I composed. It took forever (I get nervous when people watch) : ) and after a while I turned to her and said "are you getting anything from this?" and she said "yep, now I won't feel so bad when it takes ME a long time." That made me feel better too.

How right you are - that IS cool!
Your paintings never fail to impress me and I often think "woah!" Thanks for the inspiration!

Art by accident is just another name for working intuitively.
It seems funny that you can paint with people watching (doing demos) but not compose. I don't think it would bother me to have someone watch me set up, but have someone (especially a group) watch me paint and I'd be a quivering puddle of nerves. And the painting would be in even a worse state. So how do you do it?
