The last of the series, a closeup. The actual flowers were a bit more pink than this, but I couldn't figure out how to get the variety of pinks with my palette. Today I was working on a large day lily and pulled in a few pinks I don't usually use, which worked very well (I'll post the day lily soon). One is Permanent Rose, and the other two are Quinacridone something or others. Here is a 20"x20" painting of carnations I am sending off to the Just Looking Gallery in San Luis Obispo tomorrow. I love this one. I'm going to start posting some larger paintings here too. Oh, and by the way, I've been tagged a lot lately. I wish I could do them all, but I just don't have the time. Thank you all who have tagged me anyway! Always an honor!

I'm so excited to hear you will be at Just Looking Gallery. It is just 20 minutes from me. I believe they are one of the most successful in San Luis County. Congratulations. Reds are a big subject in paint. I can't remember who it was (one of the daily painters, in any case), who said that he had a whole pile of reds... Mama always told me to mix instead of buy, but I have four different reds in daily use - Quinacridone Magenta, Perylene Maroon, Cad Scarlet, and Venetian Red. And yet, I'm still searching for that perfect deep, dark red for the deepest shadows on red flowers... I know it's out there.
