"Pelican Bait" --- SOLD

This is the first non-wipe painting from Rockport. It was also the first time during the weekend that the sun came out from behind the clouds. : ) Even still it all looked terribly gray to me. I am so used to being in full control of my subject - of trying out 5 background colors if necessary (all of them fairly saturated) - of making the light do exactly what I want it to - of taking out the odd orange and adding another apple! But, I loved the way this bait shack leaned, and how the white sign on top was slightly darker than the sky. Don't ask me why. I used the Ampersand boards again and my new fantabulous brush. I painted two more and will post them soon.

Oh, this is great. The way you handled the masts and the sign and deep red of the shack.. I almost smell the salty air and the bait.
Can't wait to see the others!

Great Painting. There must be some universal law about bait shops needing this shade of red paint. I've been holding my breath since Thursday for and update. I think i qualify as a pearl diver now. Awaiting more. :)

I love this one!! I hope you show more landscape painting 'cause they are so worth learning from. Your easygoing, carefree strokes and color really grabs me. Well done!

Well I love paintings in coloured greys - they always seem so very accomplished as indeed this one does.

........and I had this curious notion about a Marine needing to do marine paintings - don't make a face! ;)

Kate said exactly what I wanted to: I love this one!!
I happen to love gray, especially when there's a good range of them, and in this case, they're quite luminous and beautiful!
Nice to see this kind of subject matter from you!

What a fun surprise! The shack is great, but my favorite parts are the water, the clouds and those perfect boats - you caught it all. This is a painting I'll study for a long time, there's a lot to learn from it.

This is gorgeous.

A really daring change from your still life work.

Well done, you!

This is great! I'm delighted to see an outdoor subject like this. Also I know what you mean about the serious lack of control outside. everything including the light is always in flux. I have to try and let go of control (that I really like) when I'm outside. Different world eh?

I love this painting - you can feel the atomosphere and mood. Wonderful brush work as always. You've mentioned a couple of different brands of brushes lately, which fantabulous one(s) did you use for this painting?

t is good to hear that other artists have the same issue with leaving their comfort zones to paint outdoors. My beautiful new plein air easel is still in the nice carrying case that it came in a month ago!

I agree with Susan - I can smell the salt air, too Can't wait to see your other two outdoor paintings.

It is great to see a plein air from you Carol! You did a great job. Nice simple design and the grays are right on. Can't wait to see the others.
I was wondering how the trip had gone and if we were going to see anything.

Whoa! I was surprised, when I clicked on the thumbnail, that this was a Carol Marine!
Very nice landscape. Love the soft muted colors - something I never do.

Rockport, MA? The light on this is PERFECT. Not like we get in Texas much, but definitely like coastal marinas. Yum.

Wow, great stuff! Would you mind sharing where you stayed in Rockport? We've done several daytrips there, but this summer I plan to treat myself to a looooong weekend!

Jane- We stayed at the Inn at Fulton Harbor. It's a bit pricey but very nice. And it's right across the street from a marina. I can recommend Hu-Dat for nearby eating (within walking distance of the Inn).
