"Blue Vase" --- SOLD

You'll have to take my word for it - this one is better in person. I found this blue vase at a junk shop yesterday. It was next to a whole bunch of small vases that were very obviously hand-made by an amateur. The bottoms were thick and the glazes drippy. But they're perfect for painting, so I bought several. I did a larger painting today with this vase and flower and several others, and it seemed fitting to use them in a small one too. Unfortunately, the dark background shows a ton of glare and obliterates any subtlety there. The small things are tiny onions - I was going for minimal strokes.

One of your best yet. Love the use of the blue vase against the green yellow flower. The strokes give the painting such movement. The dark background just makes it all pop. This painting makes you feel excited to see it. Pat

I"m really impressed with your flat brush style, composition, and and of course, color palette. I'm teaching a course in oil and acrylic next spring semester and will put you as a link on my blog site. I just know that my students will be inspired.

Minimal strokes have really panned out for you...This painting is super fresh and vital!

Well it got a totally spontaneous "Wow" out of me when your blog appeared on screen!

I wish there was a way of getting the subtlety in darks - I have exactlythe same problem with my coloured pencil darks.

"I was going for minimal strokes" If you can do that, then you are a real artist. And I like the background. It lives! And junk shops are hip! I like them. lot's of stuff to find there

Happy painting
