"Admirers" --- SOLD

This might sound silly, but what I learned from this one is that I can have small things running off the edge of the canvas, as long as they're not the center of attention. Often I have things cut off, but generally they're large on the canvas. Suddenly I feel like I have a lot more space on my canvas. Like I said ... it's silly. I also learned that if I'm not happy with one part of my painting, I can wipe just it off, and try it over. The flower was a bit oddly shaped, and I came back into my studio after an hour or so and decided to throw caution to the wind and redo it. I'm much happier with it.

When you block off the upper part of the painting with the flower/vase and just look at the lemons, it is still a very interesting painting. It's intriguing how "charged" the open blue space becomes--the void becoming almost the center of interest itself.

Hi Carol, I've been following your website almost daily since I discovered it a couple of months ago. Thank you for sharing your thoughts about making art, I always find myself thinking "I need to remember that", such relevant info you post. And the painting a few days ago where you didn't like the composition, I can only say: you're nuts! Take another look, it's great. Sometimes we can get too focused on one little thing.
Your paintings are beautiful, you have a very unique style and seem to have chosen the subject matter to fit your style. Thanks for all the work you put into posting and sharing your paintings.

I've been throwing my small canvases out that I didn't like! Now I will wipe them off and start again. Thanks for your hints. I love your work. So crisp, clean and stylish

I rechecked the painting you didn't like. I converted it to grayscale and checked levels, and it was all midtones. Perhaps this was what was bugging you but couldn't put the finger on it, maybe.

I agree with Joan that your August 21 painting is very good. Sell it!
