"Obstacle Course" - SOLD

I know this is a common theme for me - the cup with something across it, the whole thing cropped and then something below it. But I land on it over and over. I love the spoon shadow going into the cup and continuing on either side. I used to feel bad for doing similar compositions over and over, but then I realized since I do a painting every day, it would be tough not to. Am I right?

Of course there has to be some repetition when painting daily! However, you seem to make it all look different. Well done!

You Are RIGHT.
By doing the same themes you've learned and grown. And, no matter how many times you do the same theme they are always exciting. I mean how many apples have you painted and time after time they are killer. You have a compelling and dynamic way of painting.
I need to remind myself about repeating themes because I think ...ok.. I painted an apple now what should I paint.
You've shown that painting series creates a flow and the practice is invaluable.
Have a great trip to Colorado :)

Right you are sister! If you're not painting what you want to paint, what's the point? And you do them uniquely and beautifully every time..

Wow - love, love, love these colors!!! And nice composition too. You have perfected it. Why fix what ain't broke, right? Love the rich shadows and pops of contrasting color from the cherries.

You sure are right. it is perfectly to paint the same theme or idea.

They never turn out the same anyway.

Landscape artists do this all the time.

You are right. I think about the same thing with my paintings, but I then I thought about how Monet painted those water lilies hundreds of times.

I love this color combination. It gives the painting a "retro" feel.

Brings to mind Kevin MacPherson's Pond series... same scene daily for one year.

I'm curious -- what do you feel you learn by repeating things like compositions and color palette use?

No crit -- I love your stuff, but just curious.

Every artist (eventually) finds thematic compositions that work for them and make them unique. You do this so well. I have never been able to duplicate your beautiful turquoises. I love the way that the value and intensity change from the front of the picture plane to the back. Simply amazing composition!

Carol, I am following your blog for a while now, and I never got tired of admiring your beautiful paintings, they are always an inspiration to me! I think we paint often the same subjects because they are our wonderful "obsessions", and we never get tired to reproduce them in their various aspects. And I think also that people can see this love through our paintings, and so love them. Thank you for your beautiful art. Ciao!

We are best at what we do the most. Many artists agree that repeating a subject helps one grow. Successful authors write about the things with which they are most familiar.
Thanks for posting your wonderful paintings.
