I found this cute little mouse at a real dive of a thrift store with my mom this weekend. We decided that the real finds are often at the dives where you have to squeeze around towers of crap and search through boxes. As opposed the the well lit thrift stores where everything is organized and easy to see - then all the good stuff is found right away, by someone else! The mouse is ceramic and painted gold. A student of mine recently asked me how to acheive the look of gold. I said "there is no secret - paint what you see." Well, shamefully I admit I wasn't successful in acheiving the look of gold here. I will try again tomorrow and pass on anything I learn.

What a finding, nice and cute little mouse. Waiting for version Nº 2 then!
ReplyDeleteHe looks pretty gold to me! Looking forward to Mouse version 2 and what you learn.
ReplyDeleteAdorable! And I sense a challenge on the blogsphere - let's all paint something gold! Maybe collectively we can figure it out!
ReplyDeleteI agree, painting what you see the key, but sometimes our eyes deceive us!

ReplyDeleteIsn't Gold a reflection of light? Just thinking out loud here... I am so totally an amateur here....
ReplyDeleteWow - you managed to take an ordinary "trinket" and turn it in to a masterpiece. Way to go!
ReplyDeleteCarol, once I had to paint something gold and I just used gold paint and for the darks or shaded areas I mixed it with brown (raw umber).
ReplyDeleteI like your mouse!

Awwwww !
ReplyDeleteI was going to tell you about Helen Van Wyk's color recipes, but Karen Fabian beat me to it. I have all of Helen's books and DVD's, and her recipes never fail!
ReplyDeleteI really love this! Well done!
ReplyDeletesweet!
ReplyDeleteThift stores are great places to find stuff to paint!
