For watercolours I've used ultramarine and burnt sienna too and I've done this also with oil pastels and it works when you mix it with white / blue or ochre like Mr. Naples.

What about the dark side of a tomato though - that's still eluding me ...Jameshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09363110547537633844noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34529982.post-7629162390408579292009-08-02T11:08:15.865-07:002009-08-02T11:08:15.865-07:00beautiful work Carol :-)beautiful work Carol :-)Cindy Swindellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00790381478437379389noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34529982.post-21603081805527185272009-08-02T10:18:15.890-07:002009-08-02T10:18:15.890-07:00This piece is a great surprise...This piece is a great surprise...Carolinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03792451435794001975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34529982.post-79458393976838275672009-08-02T08:00:12.572-07:002009-08-02T08:00:12.572-07:00I keep repeating your mantra from the San Antonio ...I keep repeating your mantra from the San Antonio workshop--"a little bit of red....a little bit of blue...a little bit of yellow..." as I'm trying to make gray. Makes me smile. The workshop was so much fun! I like to experiment with my grays I feel that when you mix with black it darkens the painting too much. Do you paint with oils indoors? I live on the 3rd story in an apartment building and only have a small balcony. I would like to use the oils more than when I just go on location, would opening the window with a fan be enough?Bridget Shanahanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05928314144539639312noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34529982.post-82717258766888132992009-08-02T06:56:10.888-07:002009-08-02T06:56:10.888-07:00I find this painting very interesting. Just ultramarine blue and burnt sienna (of course with white). I vary those grays up with some cerulean blue or yellow ochre to push warm or coolness. It works wonders for me.Michael Napleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14286723741592363298noreply@blogger.com
